The purpose of the residential zoning districts is to provide for predominantly suburban residential uses ranging from low to medium densities, to accommodate and support non residential uses, and to protect these areas from the encroachment of incompatible uses. The R-1 single family residential districts are established for the purpose of providing and preserving areas of single family, low intensity development at a maximum density of 5 dwelling units per acre in areas deemed suitable because of compatibility with existing development or the environmental character of the areas.
